Ditmar, Belgium

“My name is Ditmar, I’m 9 years old and I receive a Jot a Dot from Carla who is my friend. I was very happy to receive it. Earlier this year, we went to a shop in Brugge to see the Jot a Dot. There I could try the machine already. I was enthusiastic. Carla phoned my mum to say that she’d won the Jot a Dot from your contest. I really could not believe it. To be honest, I was a bit jealous. But then Carla told me she would give the Jot a Dot to me (because she is not blind)!

The next day I took the machine with me to school, and the next day, and the next day, … Everybody in my class wanted to try the Jot a Dot. My teacher was also interested because she sees a lot of blind children. The machine is very easy to work with and not so heavy like all my other machines. The only think I found difficult was to read the manuscript ‘how to use the machine’. Me and my mum laughed a lot about it.

Thank you for sending us the machine. We hope you will make a lot of people also very happy! Best wishes, Ditmar”

Peter Walsh, Australia

“Once I opened the Jot a Dot package, I knew I had purchased something marvellous and exquisite. Here was a Braille writer which felt like none other.

I read the instructions, which were very clear and easy to understand. I was surprised at the manner in which we have to write our Braille on this little unit, but I soon began to understand the reason why.

This unit is designed to enable a blind person to jot a phone number, an address, or an inkling of an idea very rapidly and easily. The Jot a Dot is not designed for the production of that great Australian novel which all of us want to write. No, it superbly enables me to take down a receipt number, or a website address easily for transcription on to another filing system. I can also jot down quick and simple reminders to myself. And there are no batteries required.

Oh, and another thing! The writing pads are readily obtainable at your local newsagent. The Jot a Dot has been designed to write on thin paper, so there's no need to panic if your paper supplies are running low.

Quantum Technology has done their homework well. This little beauty fills a hitherto empty niche in the Braille gismo market. Congratulations!”

Brad and Rachel, Australia

Brad and Rachel’s’ mum, Julie Henderson, won a Jot a Dot for them in our first Jot a Dot competition.

Brad is 15 years old and going into year 11 in 2007. He is training to become a personal fitness instructor. He does power lifting, plays golf and competes in the blind sports program at Royal Society for the Blind (RSB) in South Australia.

Rachel is 14 years old and going into year 9 in 2007. She loves swimming for the blind, and competes in sports with RSB as well. Rachel loves arts and crafts.

Brad and Rachel both have Retinitis Pigmentosa. Their Jot a Dot gives them the freedom to write their own messages when and where they want to.

This is what they say!

“The Jot a Dot has helped us both a lot when it comes to simple things like taking notes at school, taking messages over the phone and leaving notes for each other at home, and also when we go to places and have to remember things we will take it in the car. The Jot a Dot has really helped us both out a lot.”

I was really excited when we heard that mum had won a jot a dot. We had to have lessons when we first got it at the RSB but after a quick lesson it was a very easy and wonderful piece of equipment.

We are both so lucky to have won one with mum’s help. How to put the paper in was the hardest thing we had to learn but the Braille side was easy. We have both learnt Braille and can now do it anywhere and anytime with the help of the very portable Jot a Dot.”
