Some New Features of JAWS 8.0
Internet Explorer 7 and Tabbed Navigation
JAWS 8.0 continues to keep pace with the latest developments from Microsoft. Internet Explorer 7 introduces tabbed browsing navigation, which allows you to run multiple Web pages within a single browsing window. This browsing approach is similar to Mozilla Firefox.
New Keyboard Functions in Internet Explorer
Freedom Scientific has made a significant modification to Internet Explorer keyboard functionality. In previous JAWS releases, the tabbing order in Internet Explorer always placed the address bar and tool bar first, before any Web page links. With JAWS 8.0, pressing TAB now takes you to the first link or control on the page, skipping over the address bar and tool bar. From a usability stand point, this is much more efficient than previous JAWS releases.
Pressing SHIFT+TAB still allows you to move backwards to the tool bar and address bar. Also, if you tab all the way through the page, JAWS will wrap to the address bar from the last element on the page as expected. This functionality is part of the Internet Explorer design and has not been altered by JAWS.

JAWS 8.0 will support the following systems:
Windows 2000, Windows XP Home (JAWS Standard) and Windows XP Professional, Windows Media Edition, Windows Server 2003. A patch enabling Windows Vista support will be released by Freedom Scientific upon Vista's official release.
Freedom Scientific has discontinued support for the following versions of windows.
Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition Windows Millennium Edition and Windows NT, Jaws will not be able to be loaded on to these Operating Systems.
JAWS 7.1 Update for Internet Explorer 7
Recently a new update for JAWS 7.1 for windows XP was released which fixed some minor issues when using internet explorer 7. These were caused by changes to Internet Explorer 7 which meant JAWS couldn't read some form fields such as combo boxes. You can either get this update by using the "check for updates" option in the JAWS help menu or download the full JAWS 7.1 package from:

Automatic Language detection in JAWS Question
When a web page is loaded and JAWS starts speaking in a different language. For Example, An HTML page is coded as if it were written in French - it is actually written in English but the new JAWS 5.0 Language Detection feature is seeing the HTML mark-up and causing JAWS to read the text with French Eloquence.

- Press ALT+Control+D to be sure the default JAWS configuration manager file is loaded.
- Pres Alt+S to open the Settings menu.
- Arrow to “Text processing" enters or press T to open the dialog.
- Press Alt+G to toggle Detect Languages off or on.
- Press ENTER to exit the HTML dialog and save this change.
- Exit the Configuration Manager by pressing ALT+F4. Press Y when prompted to save all changes.
Control page up and control page down Question
After using the "Find" command in Word, control page up and control page down searches for the next and previous instance of your find query instead of moving by pages.
If you want to use CTRL+PAGE DOWN and PAGE UP to move to the next and previous pages of your document instead of the Find command, do the following:
- In Microsoft Word, press INSERT+3. This passes the next keystroke you press through to Word.
- Press ALT+CTRL+HOME to open the Select Browse Object menu.
- Select "Browse by Page" and press ENTER.
Note: to select a different type of item to move to when you press CTRL+PAGE DOWN or PAGE UP, do the above and arrow through the list to select the object you prefer.

Quantum’s user Tip
JAWS FS Clipboard
Did you know that you can copy multiple entries into your clipboard and have them all available to paste together?
FS Clipboard extends the functionality of the Windows Clipboard. When you use the Windows Copy (CTRL+C) or Cut (CTRL+X) commands to place text on the Clipboard, it replaces any text already there. When using the FS Clipboard feature, text that you copy is added to any text that you have previously copied to the Clipboard. This allows you to continue adding text to the Clipboard until you are ready to paste it into a document.
To add text to the Clipboard, select it using the text selection commands, and then press WINDOWS Key +C. The text is appended to the end of any text already on the Clipboard. To paste all the text that you have placed on the Clipboard so far, use the Windows Paste command (CTRL+V). The text is inserted into your document at the current location of the cursor. Each block of text that you copied is separated by a blank line.
